Dineo Ranaka opens up about being a 'single parent'

Johannesburg - They say it takes a village to raise a child - or a whole household if you are Dineo Ranaka.

The bubbly TV personality sat down with talk show queen Khanyi Mbau on e.tv's Katch it with Khanyi recently, where she opened up about the struggles of raising her children.

Dineo chose to stay quiet on the subject of her baby daddy, Blaklez. The couple share a three-year-old daughter.

When Khanyi brought up the subject, and asked if he was involved in their child’s life, the normally vocal Dineo chose to instead sip water and avoid eye contact.

When pressed, Dineo asked to go to the bathroom, perhaps to escape out the window. Sometimes silence speaks the loudest.

But one thing she maintains is that she is not a single parent! “I’m not a single parent. I don’t parent alone," Dineo told Khanyi.

“I co-parent with my siblings. I co-parent with my parents. I’m not a single parent and I don’t know what it feels like to be a single parent. I get titled a single parent, but in reality I’m not. My family is very involved and so I don’t know what it feels like to be alone. Even if a man leaves, I’ll never be alone!”

And even though Dineo has been forced to move back home recently, she says she doesn't hold any guilt about not being able to do more for her children. She says, instead she sees her ideal life with her children as goals, which she is working towards.

“I may be living in a garage at my mom’s house right now, but there’s a method to my madness all the time. There’s a plan in place. We're going back, but we're moving forward, we getting there. It never feels like guilt,” she says.
