Fifty Shades breaks records

It's the movie everyone is talking about and it shows in the numbers.

Last week we were part of a group of 20 people who were the first in the country to watch the film at a special screening with Nu Metro. We were told that on pre-sales alone, the flick has smashed records by over 50%.

And the same applies to Ster-Kinekor. It says that Fifty Shades of Grey achieved was its biggest box office hit for a single day in the company's recorded history, breaking the previous record by a massive 47%.

But how has this affected sales in other areas, like adult stores?

George Masche, Co-Founder of Passionfruit.co.za, believes that the global phenomenon of the 50 Shades trilogy has lifted taboos and shifted stigmas, allowing people to expand their sexual consciousness and unwrap their sexuality without fear of judgement. The online adult store has seen a significant spike in sales since the books were released and will no doubt enjoy continued success with the films coming out.
