Flabba Murder Trial: “I only saw her cut herself with glass”

Johannesburg – The Randburg High Court is currently hearing evidence from state witnesses in the murder trial of late hip hop star Nkululeko 'Flabba' Habedi.

The rapper was killed on 9 March 2015, after being stabbed in the chest by his girlfriend, and murder-accused Sindi Manqele.

Witnesses revealed to the court that Flabba was in good spirits before the argument, which led to his death.

The rapper's cousin Mpho Motsoari and a family friend, Thapelo Sello took to the stand to give the court their version of events.

Mpho continued his testimony from Monday afternoon, when he told the court that Flabba had walked into the house after Sindi, and told him, and a group of friends that the pair were fighting.

“He came in and greeted us and sang to his track then told us that he had a fight with Sindi and needed to go sort it out,” Mpho told the court.

Mpho says Flabba returned outside when it was clear that the door was locked, and was singing to himself before rushing into the room once Sindi had opened the door.

Thapelo also gave testimony of these events, confirming that the mood was pleasant until Flabba entered the bedroom and an argument ensued between the rapper and Sindi.

Both witnesses acknowledged an argument but said that they did not deem it serious enough until they heard Flabba screaming  "this b**ch just stabbed me" and Sindi rushing out of the room, calling for their help.

Thapelo says he entered the room and found Sindi trying to resuscitate Flabba and pleading for him to come back to life.

Both witnesses acknowledged the presence of a knife, which was shown in court.

Thapelo claims that after paramedics and police were called, Sindi tried to cut herself on both wrist with a glass in the room.

“Sindisiwe Manqele never complained to me about being injured, I only saw her cut herself with glass,” Thapelo told the court.

He claims that paramedics had to bandage Sindi's wounds before police handcuffed her to protect her from further harming herself.

Sindi sat in the dock listening to the testimonies intently and sobbed when the witnesses spoke of her trying to resuscitate Flabba.
