Friends and family gathered at the Standard Bank arena this morning to pay tribute to Eddie Zondi. The late Metro FM DJ died from a heart attack earlier this week.
Beautiful words were spoken about the radio legend, who touched the lives of many South Africans.
Metro FM station manager Martin Vilakazi paid a moving tribute which brought some to tears.
He said they have lost a friend, a brother, a mentor, a role model and a legend.
"The nation has lost a legendary broadcaster. He carved his own identity as a brand. was a friend, a brother, a confidante and a relationship mentor to his listeners. He was loved by his listeners," he said.
While radio group executive head Leslie Ntloko described Eddie as "every manager's dream". He said his ratings were impressive for the 18 years he spent at the station.
