American rock pop band, The Fray are in town for their SA tour this weekend. The boys had a few minutes to chat this morning at a press conference. Here's what we learnt:
About their music
The Fray have just released a new album, Helio, an album they say is intentionally upbeat. "In the past we'd just gotten in a room together and recorded songs" they say. "All of the new material is fun to play right now," they said, adding that fans can look forward to a great mix of their new songs and old favourites."Performing songs like How To Save A Life never gets old, it's just such an honour", they said before adding "As a musician, you start thinking it's for you. But you're not playing music for you, you're playing music for other people".
About visiting South Africa
The guys from the Fray are really enjoying their trip to South Africa and have been blown away by the countries diversity. "Joburg has a little bit of everything. We feel like this place has a lot of diversity and contrast," the band said, before adding " We've been to a lot of cities but Joburg is exciting, there's such a diverse of food and people".Talking about food, the band said that they never visit a country without trying out the local cuisine. "'We do make a point to have local delicacies and local beer," they said. "We had some fish head curry in Singapore that didn't go down so well. It is nice here though. We had some good beef jerky stuff (biltong)".
What goes through their head during and after a show
Asked what runs through their mind during a show they replied "I need to pee". But once they've relieved themselves they say they force themselves to relax. We can't wait to party with the band in Jo'burg tonight!
