Gospel star Sfiso Ncwane: "I'm lucky that I survived"

Award-winning gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane has spoken candidly about his heart problem. The artist, who has stopped performing because of his illness, told Sowetan that when he first experienced the cardiac complications he didn't take it seriously.

"I thought it was because of travelling and performances," he said.

According to the paper, the singer was ordered to avoid strenuous activities after he almost collapsed when his pulse slowed down. It was then revealed that his heart was surrounded by acidic water. He told the paper that he went for scans and an ultrasound before having the water drained and that was followed by weekly hospital visits.

"I am out of danger now and I count myself lucky that I survived. I have been given strict instructions to monitor my weight and eat healthy. I was a ‘pap and vleis’ kind of guy; I had to stop that completely," he told the paper.

The illness has delayed him from working on his new album, Bayede Baba.
