Hugh Masekela continues the fight against weaves

Johannesburg - Just as we thought weavegate was an issue of the past, Hugh Masekela has reignited the debate, saying that South Africans are losing their heritage.

According to Sowetan, Hugh was speaking at the Unisa annual law conference this week, when the topic of weaves was brought up.

He has again reiterated that he would not take pictures with women wearing weaves, saying it is his constitutional right to deny taking pictures with people wearing weaves.

As part of a Heritage Day special, Hugh was interviewed by enca. In the interview, he says that Africans are losing their heritage. "If you look at the traditional pageants they are wearing traditional clothes but are wearing wigs and weaves. It doesn't mix."

"It's important to know that in places like Europe you can go anywhere you see your history, we don't have places like that," he later adds.

Last month The Juice reported how Hugh had allegedly requested extra security after women wearing weaves wanted to take his picture. It was claimed that he asked for his team to be beefed up, so that they could deny the women right to access.
