Ifani: "I was in a mental institution"

Ifani has opened up to Move about his relationship with his parents. The rapper was raised by his grandmother, who died a few years ago.

Speaking about her death, she told Move: "I was so devastated, I wanted her to enjoy my success. There was so much I wanted to do for her. The news her death was a real blow for me. I started asking many questions at work and some people were uncomfortable with this. This made life unbearable for me and I ended up in a mental institution."

Ifani, who was working as a computer engineer at the time, added: "I decided to have a relook at everything. I decided to pursue music, my first love." He told the mag that although his mother was never there for him, he supports her financially. He said he first saw her at his grandmother's funeral. "It was a bizarre reunion. When I got paid for my first gig, I called her and asked for her banking details. She was shocked. I still send her money even though I do not have a relationship with her.

He also only met his father once after his aunt arranged the meeting. He told the mag: "The meeting was odd. I felt like I was forcing myself on him, like someone who was after his inheritance. We look alike. The only other thing I remember about him is that he is an educated man with too many degrees."

WOW!
