In case you missed it: Sun International slams former Miss SA, Marilyn Ramos

Sun International has now gone on the attack after former Miss SA, Marilyn Ramos, made a series of damaging allegations yesterday.

Marilyn, who was responding to an article in heat magazine, about her alleged dismal reign as Miss SA, firmly placed the blame on Sun International.

The Juice reported that Sun International was fuming at the suggestions and the group has now released a statement, dismissing Marilyn's comments.

The group insists that contrary to Marilyn's statements that she had no pr, a plan was put in place when she was crowned and 'this was carried out in full.'

Marilyn also claims she was left high and dry by Sun International and her family had to pay for many of her outfits for international competitions as well as excess baggage. The groups denies this. "Marilyn did not have an official clothing sponsor but had the full support of Sun International and South African designers who helped with her wardrobe throughout the year of reign. Sun International does and has always paid for business class air tickets to and from the pageants and provides a foreign exchange allowance for expenses during Miss SA’s travels to international pageants. Sun International also provides an excess baggage allowance of 100kg which is fairly generous," said group brand and communications manager, Michael Farr.

In addition to these allegations, Marilyn said when leaving for Miss Universe, "To make things even worse, no one from the Organization even made an effort to come and see me off at O.R Tambo." Sun International has slammed Marilyn saying this is not the truth. “Former Miss SA Melinda Bam, now the Miss South Africa National Executive, accompanied Marilyn to the airport when she travelled to Miss Universe, and Sun International held a press conference at The Maslow Hotel to bid Marilyn farewell prior to her departure for the Miss World and Miss Universe competitions. A scout accompanied Marilyn to the Miss Universe pageant and the company was in regular contact with her during the competition.”

Sun International ended the statement with the following  message:

“While we can’t really understand the comments she made, we would be happy to engage with her further to talk this through.”
