Jamie Bartlett on fame: You just have to play the ball

Johannesburg- Veteran actor Jamie Bartlett better known as the villainous, David Genaro has revealed that he's nothing like the evil man he plays.

Sitting down for a chat with Gareth Cliff on Cliffcentral, Jamie opened up about his career over the past 30 years, and what it takes to excel as an actor.

During the interview, Jamie explained that he always knew that all he's ever wanted to do is act.

And, even though he may be most well-known for playing the outspoken, vindictive and evil David on Rhythm City, in real life Jamie describes himself as "shy, complex and confused."

Being on Rhythm City and numerous movies over the last three decades has made Jamie a household name, not just in South Africa, but also across Africa.

Jamie revealed that he's so recognisable in countries like Ghana and Zambia, it's scary.

"I was fishing on the Zambezi River one day and visited a market to buy local tomatoes, and it was scary that the entire market came to a stand still. Dealing with fame can be scary, but you can't think of it and just continue playing the ball," Jamie added.

We don't know about you guys, but we can never imagine the mighty 'David' being scared at all!
