Ever since Janez announced his new business venture, Cheeky Media, there have been questions about whether he would stay on as a Top Billing presenter. The official line was that he would be on the show's presenter list but be used less, to allow him to focus on his new ventures. However, questions over a split remain.
The Juice spoke to Janez recently to clear the air and he told us he has definitely left Top Billing.
"No I'm not presenting on Top Billing. Not now. I'll never close the door on that, but right now I'm completely focused on my new ventures," he told us." It's a fresh break for me . My mind is set on innovating. Sometimes there isn't enough innovation and too much of doing the same thing all the time and I'm all about innovation".
It seems that Janez's push towards innovation may have been the reason he left the lifestyle magazine show. He told us that he wasn't happy with Top Billing and the way that it was run.
"I was sick and tired of being told how it was and how it was meant to be. I had my own ideas and opinions and so I moved away. My philosophy is that competition is a good thing" he said. "My leaving has ruffled a lot of feathers but I don't care. I have my mind set on what I want to do and where I want to go and I have no time for all the politics".
But Janez made sure that when he left Top Billing he left in the best possible position, taking some of the shows best talent with him in the split.
"Everything I've learnt over the years, the do's and don't, I'm bringing with me to my company. That, and all my contacts. I've taken the best of the best with me and we formed this company" he told us.
With the formation of Cheeky Media, Janez will take the role of executive producer, producing 4 shows for the SABC, including a show called the Man Cave that will air on prime time.
"I want to grow this company, " Janez told us, adding, "I dream big. We are continuously thinking of new ideas and I've had people in the industry, former colleagues and stuff, knocking on my door asking to work with us."
Janez's show, The Man Cave, will debut on the 6th of the August at 8pm on SABC 3.
