Johannesburg- Jason Derulo landed in hot water over comments he made at the SATY awards on Saturday night.
The singer who was the main act at the glitzy awards ceremony upset fans across the country, after he asked guests if they can speak English.
Jason asked the audience to stand up during his performance, but some people ignored the request.
This was followed by the English question, which sent social media into a frenzy.
Jason took to Twitter on Sunday morning explaining that the question was a figure of speech, and was aimed at a single table of people, who refused to stand up.
"Speaking English" remark I made, was directed to a specific table. It wasn't literal, just a figure of speech when someone isn't responding
