K.O: 'I was ready to give up'

Johannesburg - Rapper K.O is the talk of the town after his massive SAMA win, but it's an achievement he almost never received.

K.O revealed to Drum recently that there was a time in his life, where he almost gave up and threw in the rap towel.

He had just moved to Johannesburg and formed the hip-hop collective Teargas but things were not looking up for the Mpumalanga-born star.

"Six or seven months after we dropped our second album, nothing was happening for us," he admitted.

"I was embarrassed to go home because I was supposed to be busy. I had to call my brother to send me some money so I could buy bread. I was ready to give up," he adds.

"My mom sat me down to let me know that the music thing just might not pop, and she gave me application forms for government jobs," he says.

Luckily the group's single, Take Me Out, took off and ...as they say: the rest is (SAMA) history
