Local actors angered by Uzalo's policies?

Johannesburg- Durban based actors are up in arms over Uzalo's recruitment policies.

The SABC1 telenovela, which is filmed in KZN, has angered regional actors who say they have been overlooked for roles on the drama series.

Erm, aren't auditions open to all actors and it's a matter of who fits the part best?

According to Sunday Sun the storm started when AfroSoul lead singer, Thandeka Zulu landed herself a role on Uzalo.

"The telenovela Uzalo is a joke. It’s full of amateur actors. I’m from KwaMashu where this telenovela is based, but they have overlooked me. And that’s unfair,” says Tha Simelane.

In a statement, Uzalo's producers rubbished claims that they overlooked anyone. The statement also explained that actors are recruited from the province as well as other provinces.

"We do not discriminate based on geographical location – we regard this as an opportunity for the community of KwaZulu-Natal, including, but not restricted to, KwaMashu residents," the statement added.

Exactly.
