MTV MAMAs announces new Evolution category

Johannesburg- The countdown to this year's MTV Africa Music Awards 2015 has officially begun!

In exactly two weeks all roads will lead to Durban for the annual musical extravaganza, which aims to honour African musicians.

The glitzy awards ceremony has become one of the most anticipated events on the entertainment calendar, where both local and international artists take to the stage to strut their stuff.

International RnB sensation NE-YO was revealed last week as one of the international stars who is set to perform at the show. (Read that story here)

Now MTV Base Africa has revealed a new category called the 'Evolution'  award, which has been added to the awards ceremony.

"The MAMA Evolution award honours established artists who have made an indelible mark on African and global music culture, taken African music to new territories around the world, pushed boundaries of creativity, and shaped the soundscape of contemporary Africa," MTV Base Channel Director Tim Horwood explained.

The nominees for this category are 2Face (Nigeria), Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Asa (Nigeria), Black Coffee (South Africa), Chameleone (Uganda), D'Banj (Nigeria), Fally Ipupa (DRC), HHP (South Africa, P-Square (Nigeria) and Samini (Ghana).

The organisation has also revealed that Bucie, Cassper Nyovest, Davido, Diamond Platnumz and Yemi Alade are set to perform at the awards on 18 July.
