Johannesburg - From relative obscurity to having one of the biggest songs in Mzansi this year, it's been quite a journey for DJ and producer Mobi Dixon.
A few weeks ago, The Juice revealed that Mobi had overcome a drug addiction in his youth, an experience he says gave him the strength to go on.
Mobi told The Juice that he always know his music would strike a chord with the youth, but even he wasn't ready for just how huge his standout track, City Rains, would become.
“I never thought it would be this big. Obviously when you release music you hope and pray for the best. The best possible response to your songs. But I honestly never thought it would get this big,” he tells us.
“I remember when we first released the track, we planned for it to be an introductory single for two or three singles which would come out after - almost to prepare the ground for other tracks. But it ended up being THE single, the song that made history,” he adds
Mobi says that he turned down a career in I.T to follow his “passion” for music. And even though it’s taken its time to come, he always knew success was waiting for him.
“I honestly feel like every time I pray, every time I release a song, I feel like God is telling me, 'here’s a plan for you, I gave you this talent for a reason, one day it’s going to give.' That’s why after six, seven years in the game I never gave up, even through the tough times,” he adds
Besides punting his new album, Mobi Dixon will soon be taking his talent to an overseas audience when he embarks on a UK tour in August.
