In a nutshell: Local hip hop muso, AKA, is gearing up to release a new album in a few weeks time and has dropped a new single to wet our appetite. It's already shot to number one on the South African iTunes chart and number two on the hip hop charts a few hours later.
What’s it like: AKA stuck in the 80's. Relying on a powerful 80's soul sample to push the track forward, AKA's new single seems to be restricted to the pace of the sample. This allows him to slow down the rapping to deliver some great lines but it soon gets old and a bit boring.
Fave Bit: Even though the pace is slow, AKA drops some great lines, particularly near the end of the track. He really shines when he allows himself to get a little Khasi ghetto and talks about J.C Le. Roux.
Rating: AKA is one of our favourite local artists but his latest offering is a little underwhelming. The chorus is catchy and the sample used is powerful but it can soon feel dated. There's only so much congratulating you can do. 3/5
