Music: Coldplay - Magic

In a nutshell: After surprising the world with a teaser video for their new album a few weeks back, Coldplay have released their first single from their hugely anticipated sixth album, Ghost Stories.

What’s it like: Like frontman Chris Martin stuck at a drum and bass factory. It’s got a little of the Coldplay shine with a generous dose of EDM. But, no matter how hard we try, we can’t shake the thought that it sounds a lot like the bands teaser video, Midnight, a couple of weeks back.

Fave Bit:  Near the end of the track, after Chris Martin bursts into a high pitched girly whine that’s strangely pulling, the pace slows down and the instrumentals stop for a haunting moment that chills to the bone. Top class.

Rating:  It’s just a relief that Coldplay are back with some new material, even if that material is strangely eerie. Still, there’s something beautiful about it. We can’t wait for the album in May. 4/5
