In a nutshell: The guy who once woke up in a new buggati has released a new album. Hip hop artist Rick Ross released his sixth album, Mastermind, straight to the number one spot on the US billboard charts.
What’s it like: Featuring contributions from hip hop heavyweights Jay Z, Kanye West, Diddy, Lil Wayne, Big Sean, the and French Montana, this album is pretty much a Rick Ross and friends album. This makes for fresh listening but often these well known guests outshine Ross on an album that is about drugs, money and hoes. But, hey, what else would you expect from a hip hop album?
Fave Bit: The devil is a lie. It's easy to see why the track was chosen as the first single off the album, it's just brilliant. It’s one of Ross's best performances on the album with the genius of Jay Z to boost it just a little more. The instrumentals are killer too.
Rating: Mastermind is suppose to be a celebration of Rick Ross as a boss and mastermind of hip hop ,and full credit to him for pulling in a stellar line up of guest, but Ross at times fades in the light of these guests. Leaving us with questions of whether he really is a mastermind. 3/5
