In a nutshell: Skrillex revolutionised the techno scene a few years ago and the legend is back with his second album, recess. Is it enough to recapture his audience and remind us all why we fell in love with skrillex.
What’s it like: Like a 45 minute DJ sessions in the kitchen, with the blenders on . It kicks off hard enough to remind us what made Skrillex so damn amazing the first time we heard him. The perfect blend of samples and beats that introduces the album is carried through with devastating effect. There are phases where it's all DJ effects (read: blender) but there's enough strength in these to keep our attention.
Fave Bit: The title track, Recess. It's skrillex in all his techno glory with the legendary Fat Man Scoop dropping his best deep bass lines in years. It's the perfect holiday tune, opening like a beach party and ending all sweaty in a club.
Rating: . It does start to all sound the same near the end of the album but there's enough highlights to keep us absolutely enthralled. As a genre leader, Skrillex has set the standard for techno/EDM over the last few years and with Recess Skrillex has once again lays down a benchmark that other artists will have to work hard to match. 5/5
