Muvhango actors threaten to go on strike

Muvhango is the latest soapie to experience drama off the screen. According to reports, the soapie's actors have not been paid their September salaries. The Sunday Sun reported that the actors are threatening to go on strike if they don't receive their money this week.

A cast member told the paper: "We are very pissed off because we think they’re treating us like dirt. If we don’t get paid, something must happen. It’s the end of the month, we don’t have money and our debit orders are bouncing back. We’re going to shoot our scenes but we are not happy bunnies!"

The situation has affected some of the actors' focus, according to a crew member. The crew member said: "These people are no longer motivated as they believe that the producers are taking them for a ride. They are not even co-operative when they are on set..."

Another actor told Sunday Sun that they've been waiting for their money and nobody is telling us what’s happening. "If they think that we are scared to strike, they must think again because we are working for our families. This is nonsense and we cannot stand for it, simple as that,” said the actor.

SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago acknowledged the problem. He told the paper: "We were not aware that they have not been paid. Once we were made aware, we intervened. We are concerned about the plight of actors. We are going to make a special payment to Word of Mouth [production company] early next week while we are investigating the cause of the delay. If we find that one of us is at fault, there will be consequences."
