National Prosecuting Authority to appeal Oscar Pistorius' conviction

The National Prosecuting Authority has just announced its plan to appeal the sentencing and conviction of Oscar Pistorius.

Oscar, who was found guilty of culpable homicide, is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria. According to the NPA, prosecutors are preparing the necessary papers in order to be able to file within the next few days.

According to EWN journalist Mandy Wiener, the NPA will have to go back to Judge Masipa and ask her for leave to appeal against her judgment and sentence.

Mandy has also tweeted that Judge Masipa must then decide if another judge could possibly come to a conclusion different to the one that she reached in the case. She added: "If Masipa grants leave then the appeal will be heard. If she turns it down then NPA can petition Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein."
