6 quick questions with Manhattans frontman Gerald Alston

Cape Town - We called the lead singer of the Manhattans, Gerald Alston, while he was driving back to New Jersey after visiting his mother in the Deep-South of America.

The world-renowned vocalist and performer gave us all the juice about what fans can expect from his upcoming show, what keeps him coming back to South Africa and what he plans to do in Mzansi when he’s not on stage.

Here's the full interview with Gerald Alston:

The Juice: Where are we reaching you today?

Gerald Alston: On the road back to New Jersey, after visiting my mother.

The Juice: Will this be your first trip to South Africa? What made you want to come?

Gerald Alston: No, actually we’ve been coming to Cape Town and South Africa since 1996 almost every year. Our fans keep us coming back. They keep buying our records and supporting us; it’s fantastic.

The Juice: What can fans look forward to from the show?

Gerald Alston: Well we’ll be performing all the classics that our fans love and some new material from our most recent record that came out a little while ago. I’ll be performing some of my solo stuff along with Manhattans classics and a duet with Regina Belle.

The Juice: What’s your all-time favorite song to perform?

Gerald Alston: Mmmm, that’s a tough one. I’d have to say one of my favorites is There's No Me Without You. Because if it wasn’t for the fans, concert promoters, media and everyone involved in making what we do possible there would be no show.

The Juice: Will you be collaborating with any local artists?

Gerald Alston: We have no plans to do so, at this point.

The Juice:  Away from the stage do you have anything special planned for this trip to South Africa?

Gerald Alston: Nothing is finalized yet but we have some plans to shake hands and signs autographs with our fans all over South Africa to say thank you. Keep an eye out for when that us announced.

The Legends of R&B tour with The Manhattans featuring Gerald Alston and Regina Belle will be in Johannesburg on Thursday 21 July, Friday 22 July and Saturday 23 July at the Teatro, Montecasino.

Then the Legends of R&B will be in Cape Town on Sunday, 24 July at the Grand Arena, Grand West.  Tickets can be bought on Computicket
