The month of love just got a lot more exciting thanks to a brand new channel that’s coming to DStv today. New channel Moja Love promises to showcase content that speaks to universal love in the African context.

Speaking to DRUM, Jacqui Setai, channel head for Moja Love, explains the concept behind the channel. “Moja is a slang word that means ‘everything is good’ and while love is a universal emotion, Moja Love shall explore love from the unique perspective of the modern South African woman using honest, reflective, hopeful and humorous storytelling.”

“For us at MultiChoice it’s important to offer our customers a range of different entertainment options – and to provide a platform for local stories to be heard. Our customers are looking for content that is tailor-made for them and stories they can resonate with and relate to. We believe Moja Love will make a good addition for our customers,” Yolisa Phahle, CEO for general entertainment at MultiChoice, tells DRUM.

The 24-hour channel will be filled with fresh, new-to-air shows that are locally produced and primarily targeted at women, with a spill over for male audiences. Out of the 22 shows that the channel will air from February, 80% are created and produced by Siyaya Media Network specifically for Moja Love. The rest of the shows are selected from other African countries and have not aired in South Africa before.

Anticipated shows include reality show No Excuses: Pay Your Papgeld and Show Me Love – a talk show hosted by KG Moeketsi alongside Unathi Nkayi, Abigail Visagie and Nontobeko Sibisi.

With so much exciting content on offer, there’s no reason for single folks to feel the Valentine’s blues. The channel, which aims to show viewers a universal theme of love through its variety of shows, will be going live today, 14 February, at 5pm on DStv channel 157. It will be available on all DStv packages.
