It was an incredible year for music, from Cassper Nyovest filling up FNB Stadium to Nasty C being interviewed on Sway in the Morning – it showed South African musicians are some of the best in the world.
This year also introduced us to some new artists who had us dancing from January until now. These newcomers have blasted through our speakers and it seems they’ll continue to do so in the New Year. Here are some of the new artists who shook the music industry this year.
1. Distruction Boyz
Distruction Boyz is a Durban-based group consisting of two guys, Thobani “Cue” Mgobhozi (21) and Zipho “Gold” Mthembu (22). The Boyz have kept us on our feet with their gqom music and dropped their debut album, Gqom is the Future, that brought us hits like Madness and Omunye Phezu’Komunye.
2. LaSauce
Sindisiwe Magoso, aka LaSauce, is a female singer who joined Ambitiouz Entertainment earlier this year. The 18-year-old has produced hits like I Do featuring Amanda Black and CoolerBag.
3. J Molley
J Molley is a hip-hop artist who’s taken the industry by storm. The 18-year-old made hits like 200 on My Wrist and Hype. He’s also nominated for the freshman of the year award at the SA Hip Hop Awards.
4. Team Mosha
Team Mosha is a Mamelodi-based music group which consists of two members, Mpho "Shuffle Muzik" Talana and Mantshane "Khumo MRD" Malala. The pair has made us go wild on the dance floor with their amaPiano hits Senya Retla Patela, Sofa Silahlane and Chomi.
5. Tipcee
Tipcee is a Durban female gqom artist who’s signed under DJ Tira’s music label, Afrotainment. The hit-maker has a song, Madness, with Distruction Boyz and Malume with DJ Tira.
