Katlego Danke has been slaving away like a rock star. Hard on the heels of her latest movie – All About Love – the 39-year-old actress was cast in another local film, Farewell Ella Bella. After spotting her out on the town in Sandton, we decided to find out more about her latest endeavours.
“I’ve done two films this year,” she said. “One should be released shortly, possibly in the New Year. The fans can look out for that. Farewell Ella Bella is the name of the movie. It was all shot locally; it is a locally made film. It is mostly female-shot actually: female director, female crew and what have you. Like, it’s quite solid.”
The Isidingo star recently made headlines after she revealed she was a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace. In support of the #MeToo campaign against sexual abuse, Katlego revealed her harassment happened at university and very recently at work.
“I would say I’m supporting the people who are part of the #MeToo campaign. I just think [we need] more awareness campaigns like #MeToo and getting people to be more aware will go a long way. I think at the moment we are not conscious, we don’t know.”
Was it difficult to speak up against sexual harassment? “No, it’s never been difficult for me to speak up about sexual harassment, ever. I spoke up about it openly on my Twitter page about being sexually harassed at varsity. It’s been on my Twitter page, it’s not difficult for me to talk about it.”
Katlego isn’t the first actress to voice her opinion on sexual abuse in the entertainment industry. She spoke up in solidarity with actresses such as Florence Masebe and Nokuthula Ledwaba who recently shared their stories about sexual harassment of actresses.
