Bob Mabena recalls his traumatic experience with altitude sickness

Cape Town - Following the death of his close friend, Gugu Zulu, radio personality Bob Mabena has opened up about his own experience with altitude sickness.  

South African race car driver, Gugu Zulu, tragically died while attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania on Sunday.

Controversial radio DJ Mabena wrote on Twitter: "Altitude sickness can b fatal. Barely survived after developing flu-like symptoms & breathing difficult in the Alps. (sic)"

He recalled the time that he hiked up the the French Alps in March, and came “close to death.”

In a separate tweet he posted: “I'am paralyzed cause same thing happened to me in the Alps in France. Very fortunate that Dr. Mhinga was on point (sic).”

He also sympathised with Gugu’s wife, Letshego: “I feel for his wife & new born.(sic)” Bob interviewed her just before they left for Tanzania and added, “I am gutted.”
