Bonang’s book receiving backlash online over inaccuracies

Cape Town – Readers have taken to Twitter to correct inaccuracies and grammar mistakes in Bonang Matheba’s memoir, From A to B.

The Juice also spoke to Bonang’s team who said "no comment" for the time being but that there would be further feedback at a later date.

On Friday, in response to the backlash, BlackBird Book and Jacana released the following statement to The Juice: 

“As publishers of black stories, one of our most important missions is to protect the author’s voice and to keep the story as authentic as possible. It was with this in mind that when we started working with Bonang on this project, we wanted to ensure that Bonang’s voice landed as truthfully as possible, hence the direction and conversational nature of the read. 

We do acknowledge that there are a few typographical errors in the book, which are regrettable, however, the core of this book is a story of a woman who inspires millions of women to find their sparkle. 
 
We appreciate your ongoing support for BlackBird Books and for Bonang, and promise to continue bringing out stories that stimulate your mind and inspire your soul.”
