Cape Town - Monique Strydom, who was taken captive in the Phillipines in 2000, together with her husband Callie, has confirmed that she has filed for divorce.
The news was announced in an official press release on Wednesday.
"It saddens me to say that we have decided to separate after 30 years of marriage. We appeal to the media to respect our right to privacy and allow the processes to be finalized. As per my attorney, Bertus Preller's instructions, I am not in a position to disclose any more information since it will not be in the best interests of our child, who is still a minor," Monique said in a statement.
She added: "I have nothing further to add. I have decided to confirm the divorce action following some media enquiries."
