Celebrities pay tribute to Joost van der Westhuizen as news of his death breaks

Cape Town – Celebrities took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to pay tribute to rugby legend, Joost van der Westhuizen.

Van der Westhuizen, 45, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition on Saturday. Despite stabilising and showing signs of acknowledging those around him, Van der Westhuizen passed away on Monday afternoon.

Van der Westhuizen fought motor neuron disease since 2011.

Afrikaans singer Bobby van Jaarsveld was one of the first local stars to pay tribute online. He tweeted: “Hartseer dag. Ons gedagtes en gebede gaan uit na Joost se mense. Hyt lank geveg. Ons gaan jou mis. Rus sag.”
