CITY PRESS REVIEWS: AKA's new music video

Johannesburg - This week, we were all on holiday in Thailand with rapper AKA and his love, Bonang Matheba. At the end of last year, he announced online that he was not only going to enjoy the sandy beaches, but also shoot the music video for his hit single The World is Yours.

In the video, Supa Mega can be seen drinking champagne from a bottle in the pool of the villa where the two were staying, clubbing, relaxing on the beach and visiting markets. You know, the usual touristy things one gets up to.

Unfortunately, the directors of the video left a lot to be desired. Besides giving us some beautiful visuals of Thailand that would appeal to adventurous and travel-thirsty AKA fans – those who can’t live his lavish life and can only live vicariously through his romantic relationship with Queen B – the directors missed an opportunity.

The song has a strong message about being at the top of his game, but the video doesn’t reflect that. If the song was not written for his love interest, or about him offering her the world, what is her role in the video? That makes her a slightly displaced prop.

The song is nice though, with an alarm-like beat in the background. It’s something that would be nice to wake up to on a weekend morning.
