DJ Cleo withdraws from Afropunk

Cape Town – South African musician DJ Cleo has said that he will not be playing at the Afropunk Festival, which is to be held in Johannesburg on 30 and 31 December 2017 at Constitution Hill.

ICYMI: Afropunk writes open letter to Jozi after Solange cancels performance.

The producer announced the news on his Twitter account on Friday, the day before the festival is due to start. His tweet read: “I won’t be playing at @afropunk anymore. I choose to be respectful in how I voice this tweet even thought there was none during the booking process. #LeNnaKeMotho”

This is what the local performer told The Juice about his decision to withdraw in an official statement:

"Nothing went wrong with negotiations, but when I start feeling like I’m looked down on as a local artist then there are problems. I have terms of engagement conditions that ensure maximum delivery. One of which is access to the event and prior arrangement and collection of necessary accreditation, which was ignored. Non-payment too....prior to a specified date in the contract."

Afropunk has not replied to The Juice's request for comment about DJ Cleo's withdrawal. This story will be updated if there is a response from the organisers about the matter.
