Multi-award winning gospel artist Ntumisang Makweya better known as Dr Tumi spoke to DRUM about his upcoming concert 'Gathering of Worshipers' at the Ticket Pro Dome.
The doctor took South Africa by storm with his gospel music and has blessed many with his gift. He has recently released his single featuring some local gospel artists and is pushing the upcoming concert.
Dr Tumi, what can people expect from Gathering of Worshipers?
It will be a live DVD recording of my new album, so I'll be performing 15 new songs and some of the old tracks too.
Why the Ticket Pro Dome?
I wanted a really big venue and we couldn't find anything as big as I wanted besides the Dome. There are big churches but I didn't want to do it in a church or outside so the Dome was perfect because I want to create an intimate setting that is also big enough for a large amount of people.
When you decided to become a recording artist did you expect the peoples response of you and your music?
No, you never really know what to expect or how people will respond to you. When they responded how they did I was presently surprised, though when I was making the music I really liked it and I hoped they would too.
What is your favorite gospel song right now?
One touch by Fred Hammond, it is about healing and I love healing.
Who is your favorite gospel artist?
All time favorite Bible verse?
Isaiah 53 verse 5: But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
What is your advise to young people who want to chase their dreams but are apprehensive?
- Always be yourself, it is easier to maintain than trying to be someone else and no one can beat you at being you.
- Never give up, try and keep trying until you get it right.
- Be prepared to learn from others, have a teachable spirit.
