There’S no doubt award winning Eastern Cape-born muso DUMISANI “DUMZA” MASWANA is having a stellar year. He not only scooped four nominations at the inaugural Mzantsi Jazz Awards – he also walked away with the song of the year award for The Letter. Now the baritone is gearing up for his “dream collaboration” with DJ Black Coffee, who accepted his request on Twitter to jam together – and Dumza couldn’t be happier! 1 My favourite instrument is bass All my songs are composed from a bassline I hear in my head. My bassist Shoxx Tendai makes me fall in love with it even more.
2 My music crush is Victor Ntoni His sound encouraged me to be confident in my craft and to love my voice. But I also love Simphiwe Dana.
3 My secret talent is that I’m a voice-over artist for SABC youth radio station Trufm. One day I hope to be on radio – it’s my other passion.
4 If I wasn’t a musician I’d probably be a pastor. I left bible college to pursue music full time.
