Everything you need to know about MAMAs 2016

Johannesburg – On 22 October, the MTV African Music Awards will be headed your way. Boasting a fantastic host, an incredible international act, and some amazing local stars, this is definitely going to be one for the books.

If you’re still in the dark about what’s going down, here’s everything you need to know about MAMAs 2016.

1. Welcome to Jozi

For the first time ever the MAMAs will be held in Johannesburg. MTV made the surprise announcement at a star-studded event in August. It’s all going down on 22 October at the Ticketpro Dome.

2. And the nominees are…

Cassper Nyovest, Riky Rick and Nasty C are just some of the local stars hoping to walk away with an award this year. Find the full list of nominees here

3. Host with the most

Although Trevor Noah was originally set to host the award show, the comedian broke the news to fans that he would not be able to make it due to a respiratory and ear infection.

Not to worry though, Queen B* will be taking Noah's place as the host of the sixth edition of the award show.

4. Future’s coming too

American rapper, Future, is also set to hit the stage on the big night with a killer performance.

5. More performers

Also hitting the stage on the night is Yemi Alade, Babes Wodumo, Nasty C, Cassper Nyovest, Wizkid and Maphorisa

6. All your favourite stars in one place

If the nominees announcement party was anything to go by, the MAMAs will be overflowing with some of our favourite stars.
