Everything you need to know about Metro FM's new line-up

Johannesburg - TV personalities Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha and Lesego “DJ Speedsta” Nkaiseng have some big shoes to fill, but they are ready for the challenge.

They were announced as the new hosts of Metro FM’s Absolute Hip-Hop show this week, taking over from “kings of the weekend” SPHEctacula and DJ Naves. The DJ duo left the station last month after seven years.

New hosts Shosha (28) and Nkaiseng (25) hosted their first show yesterday from 18:00 to 22:00. After a smooth start, the two are confident that their connection and love of hip-hop will sustain the show.

City Press caught up with them on Friday at the Metro FM studios where they were doing a promotion for their show. Shosha promised fans on social media “cool ideas” to engage their audience and said the show was going to be “just great”.

“We’ll be bringing new talent in the show and let the listeners decide whether their [artists’] songs should be played or not in the show,” Nkaiseng chipped in. “I am happy most young people in our time are giving enough for the masses out there. They are giving quality music, which is a good thing,” he added.

Nkaiseng said they would make the show unique by incorporating many novel and fun elements, not just musicians.

“We want to bring change in the hip-hop scene and we’re ready to give our audiences the best. We are going to cover everything that has to do with hip-hop culture, including entertainment and the latest fashion trends,” Nkaiseng said. He said he didn’t think twice about choosing Shosha when he received a call from the SABC about who he would like to be paired with.

“We want to take the hip-hop community international and be number one,” he said.

Here's a pic of Speedsta and Lootlove enjoying their first show:

The pair confessed to being “obsessed with music” and, in a bid to raise their profile, they plan to broadcast the show from the SA Music Awards next week.

“We want people to tell us their views about the show,” Shosha said, adding that they would be engaging with their audience every step of the way.

She said in the process of educating their audience about hip-hop culture locally and internationally, they would try to strike a balance by giving special consideration to female rappers.

The pair was excited to have been picked, saying the timing seemed perfect as hip-hop had taken over South Africa, with young and upcoming rappers rocking the music industry. When asked what filling the big shoes of SPHEctacula and DJ Naves meant to them, they both screamed in unison: “It’s our time!”
