Johannesburg – Local music legend Hugh Masekela will no longer perform at the DStv iRock Jazz Legends concert on Friday, 22 September 2017 as he recovers from an emergency medical procedure.
In an official letter to the DStv iRock team, Josh Georgio from Hugh Masekela Management said: “Following a routine medical check-up on Tuesday, 12 September 2017, and after further tests, Bra Hugh went in for an emergency medical procedure on his left eye on Friday, 15 September 2017. Following this procedure, the doctor has ordered bed rest and a calm environment for post treatment healing until the end of October. No travel or performances permitted.”
“Although this is disappointing news for Bra Hugh’s fans, his health is our top priority. We wish him a speedy recovery and will announce a replacement artist as soon as it’s confirmed,” says Rito Hlungwani, Founder and Director of the iRock Music Festivals.
Zimbabwe’s acoustic soul singer and composer, Gemma Griffiths and Limpopo’s legendary musician, Dr Thomas Chauke will still perform as scheduled; and the new headline act will be announced before the event.
Doors to the iRock Jazz Legends will open at 19:15 and tickets are available from Computicket at R280 for general access and R1250 for VIP access which includes an open bar, food and parking.
