Johannesburg - The makers and breakers of the entertainment industry were out in full force on Wednesday evening at the launch of the BET A-List Awards, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westcliff, Johannesburg.

Power couples Connie and Shona Ferguson, and DJ Black Coffee and his wife, Mbali Mlotshwa, were among the guests at the intimate event hosted by BET A-List – the new weekly lifestyle and entertainment magazine show from channel BET.

There was no love lost between top stars AKA and Cassper Nyovest, who avoided making eye contact all evening.

But when Nyovest was called to the stage to accept his Game Changer (category music) award, both AKA and Bonang Matheba – who were cosy with one another all night – joined in on the applause.

The winners of the inaugural awards, which honours entertainers who “best exemplify contemporary achievement and who are making a huge impact in their personal field of endeavour”, were announced by BET A-List hosts Ayanda Thabethe and Nandi Madida (Mngoma).

Madida, expecting her first child, looked stunning in her outfit, an orange ball gown that showed off her tiny baby bump. Thabethe thanked the Fergusons for believing in her and for grooming her as an actress.

DJ Black Coffee, among the winners, told City Press: “To be honoured is really big for every person who does what I do. Besides the fact that it’s an international award, to be recognised is always a great thing.”

There was plenty of Moët and Veuve Clicquot to ease the spirits. After the formal proceedings, DJ Kenzhero manned the decks and guests took to the dance floor to let it all hang out.
