Johannesburg - It’s a lavish two-day wedding weekend for Reggie Nkabinde who is marrying the “love of his life”, Beauty Matela.
Saturday, Day 1 of the nuptials, the treasurer-general of the ANC Youth League and the boss of record label Mabala Noise tied the knot with his long-time love in a lavish ceremony at the exclusive wedding venue, Lynton Hall, in Umzinto on KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast.
On Sunday, the couple will have their traditional wedding at Nkabinde’s home in Umzinto.
Although the couple has been together for nine years, guests declined to reveal much about Matela, only saying she was a “businesswoman”.
Nkabinde – who hit the headlines two years ago for throwing a 31st birthday bash that cost more than R2 million – recently paid tribute to his bride on his Instagram page, writing: “We’ve been tried and tested so many times, but till today this remains unshaken.”
More than 300 guests witnessed their big day, including Public Service and Administration Minister Faith Muthambi, Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and businessman-cum-politician Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza.
Guests were welcomed with canapés and cocktails, and the wedding ceremony began with Nkabinde walking down the aisle to a performance by Mondli Ngcobo, who sang his hit, Inkanyezi. Nkabinde was snappily dressed in a crystal champagne suit with a beige scarf designed by Sam M.
While he was waiting at the top of the aisle, the guests were serenaded by yet another musician. Vusi Nova had overcome his hijacking ordeal of a week ago to sing his hit, Ngikuthandile.
After that, the bride made her entrance on the white carpet dressed in an off-white wedding gown with a long train, designed by Durban-based Zarth Designs.
The couple were married by Reverend Phezile Koekoe from Gracepoint Methodist Church, who advised them that all they needed in their marriage was to be grounded in love.
“There will be sharp curves and pitfalls in your marriage. But if you stick to each other and have love for each other you won’t give up. Learn to pray together,” he added.
“Today you are giving each other your hearts. This day was destined by God. The purpose of the marriage is when you are happy together in marriage,” he said.
In a chapel set against a backdrop of trees, the couple exchanged vows they wrote themselves.
“I take you, Beauty, to be my lawfully wedded wife. To have you, respect, love, and make you happy. In all of our life together to be all together and be loyal together as long as we shall live,” Nkabinde promised.
Matela responded: “I’ll support you, cherish you for better, for worse. In sickness and in health. In our life together to be loyal to you with my heart, as long we shall live until death do us part.”
After the ceremony, guests were ushered to the main hall for the reception, featuring a four-course dinner including smoked chicken medallions marinated in sun-dried tomato pesto, Norwegian salmon served with grilled seasonal vegetables on sushi rice, and a duo of chocolate and vanilla mousse in shooter glasses for dessert. French champagne, Moët, and expensive whiskeys flowed throughout the reception at which Thabo “Tbo Touch” Molefe was the master of ceremonies.
Nkabinde’s wedding planner, Ayanda Mavundla of Mo’Celebration Events Co, said she chose the venue because she wanted the ceremony to be exclusive.
She admitted to City Press that she had never organised such a large wedding before.
“It was six months of hectic planning,” she said.
