Johannesburg - Radio and TV presenter Jeremy Mansfield is recovering at a Johannesburg hospital after he contracted a superbug. He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago his agent, Tracy Purto, told to YOU.
"He’s out of high care. He’s still in hospital but is doing much better.
"He picked up a viral superbug. It took a while for the doctors to identify what exactly he has, but fortunately they were able to identify it and it was treated with antibiotics.
"There's already a huge difference. He’s very much on the road to recovery," she says about Jeremy, who among other things has hosted the breakfast show The Rude Awakening
"He is looking forward to going home and would like to thank everyone for their well wishes," she adds.
On 23 November it was confirmed via Jeremy’s Facebook page that he’d been admitted to hospital. “He contracted some superbug which his team of doctors and the lab staff identified yesterday,” the post read.
“That is good news because they can now target it and he’s already responding to the treatment. Thank you for the well wishes and let's hope this particular journey is quickly over and he's home soon. Doctors expect it to take a few weeks yet.”
Seven days later Jeremy posted on Facebook. “What this little oukie DOESN’T know is he, like the previous two, has chosen the wrong person to pick a fight with! Jy gaan seerkry!” he joked.
On 4 December the Laugh Out Loud presenter once again made light of the situation on social media: “Still full of tubes and pushing the physio to get me mobile ? its 7s weekend in Cape Town and [national rugby coach] Neil Powell has already phoned to see if he can put me on standby.
“This still has a long way to go. They reckon at least six months’ treatment. But you know, when SOME good news comes along you grab it with both hands and bind it to your heart.”
It’s not the first time the well-known personality has had trouble with his health. In 2009 he was diagnosed with was chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, a type of blood cancer which attacks the lymph nodes. We wish him a speedy recovery!
