After charming us as judge and host on My Kitchen Rules: SA, J'Something has a lot to look forward to in the New Year. We caught up with the Nana singer at the show’s finale screening in Johannesburg.
To kick off 2018, J'Something is taking his family in SA to meet his family in the south of Portugal, where he was born. He also has a new cookbook, Something's Cooking, and is excited to see how well it does.
He also wants 2018 to have “less comfort zones”, and is ready to push himself in his career.
It's about “having fun and doing what I love,” he tells us. "Musically, I think Mi Casa has always been about challenging Mi Casa,” he says. "We've never made music to try to challenge another band or try to be better than people in the music industry.
"It's always been like, are we still improving in what we do? So I think, just to continue to try to become better at what we do, which I think is the most important thing as an artist."
He also spilled on his favourite artist who has shone in SA in the past year.
"When I look in the industry, somebody who has really stood out for me would be Shekinah, I was with Shekinah on Idols, I was part of the mentor programme on Idols.
"And I knew she had a future, now to see what she's doing at the moment – she's not up and coming anymore, I think she's established herself and deservedly so. I think she's been one of my favourite artists to come out of SA in the past year or so!"
M-Net has announced that My Kitchen Rules: SA will get a second season, and we can’t wait.
