GOSPEL star Lebo Sekgobela surprised everyone at the end of last year when she released her album that has several hit songs. One of her hit songs, Lion of Judah, was even nominated for the song of year in the Metro FM Music Awards, and she says it is a humbling experience.

HER MILESTONE

It is not surprising because Lebo has been in the gospel industry for years. She says she started singing when she was in high school. “I remember going to the studio for the first time, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. Even when I came across some challenges, through the grace of God I followed my dreams,” she says. She says releasing her fifth studio album, made her realise how important her fans are to her. “I have been releasing my best work and I finally got recognition for it,” she says. “I believe that my album Restored is one of my best works. I have collaborated with so many talented people, and I am thankful that they were patient with me to make such a wonderful experience.”

RESTORATION

Even though there were challenges when she was recording her fifth album, Lebo says the latest offering is different from her previous albums. “I made the album for restoration and that is why I named it Restored. I have found a new gospel in me, and I wanted to share it with my fans,” she says. Lebo says it is also a wonderful experience to get such a huge fan following who even begged her to have a social media page. “I love it that the song is played everywhere. I have a huge following now and I am now active on my social pages. I am more of a private person but I love my fans so I had to do it so that they know what I am basically up to,” she says. The singer adds she doesn’t mind where her song is been played. “Gospel music is meant to be shared. It shows that there is a space where you can just worship God anywhere you want, so it doesn’t matter whether my song is played in a shebeen or club,” she says.
