Local celebs support Quinton van der Burgh's #ActofGenerosity campaign

Cape Town - Quinton van der Burgh wants to help South Africans pay off their debt with the launch of #ActofGenerosity campaign.

The first beneficiaries of this great initiative were announced at an event held at the Capital Empire in Sandton on Thursday. Celebs who came out to support the worthy cause included Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, Maps Maponyane and J'Something.

Van der Burgh is one of South Africa's most accomplished entrepreneurs and philanthropist's having a great amount of success in his various business endeavours in industries such as mining, media and investments to mention a few.

#ActofGenerosity is a CSI initiative aimed at not only easing financial burdens of ordinary South Africans but also at financial literacy, him wanting to teach ordinary citizens how to live a debt free life.

The big twist of the night was when van der Burgh surprised guests as well as the finalist by awarding all three with acts of generosity instead of only choosing one.

The finalists on the night were:

1. Nqobizitha, an 18-year-old who lost his hearing ability in both ears at the age of 9 and now requires an operation to air his hearing aid.

2. David, a 37-year-old father of two who almost lost it all when a tornado damaged their home in 2017, due to a bad financial standing he's since been unable to repair the home and now seeks the foundation's help in doing so.

3. Jackie, a 30-year-old mine worker who suffers from Keratoconus (a disorder which results in the progressive thinning of the cornea).

The three candidates attended the launch with the understanding that only one of them would receive the life-changing financial assistance.

But van der Burgh surprised everyone with his tremendous acts of kindness and generosity. In the space of one minute these families were presented with much-needed support to the value of 500 000.

The show of compassion comes after van der Burgh was actively involved in the screening process, visiting all three candidates and witnessing their dire situations first-hand. He was greatly touched by all three families which inspired him to go above and beyond what he initially promised.

The room was filled with tears of joy and excitement from guest and families.

The #ActofGenerosity campaign is on-going programme that aims to help families in-need every month.
