Maphorisa tells us about his new doccie: Gqom Wave

Johannesburg – At an exclusive event on Wednesday in Johannesburg, popular DJ Maphorisa gave the media a first look at his Gqom Wave documentary to be released on 24 November.

The short film, which features interview segments from DJ Tira, DJ Vumar and Distruction Boyz, tells the story of the growing gqom genre in South Africa. 

Speaking to The Juice, Maphorisa says gqom is making it big overseas. “The gqom thing really blows people away when I’m far, like when I go out of the country to the UK [and] New York, they really love it.” 

The short film is an accompaniment to Maphorisa’s compilation album of the same name. Comprised of exclusive tracks and remixes the Gqom Wave album is scheduled for released on Friday 17 November. 

On what fans should expect from the album, Maphorisa says: “Just dance and energy. Moonchild is bringing a different flavour, Bucie is bringing a different flavour. And working with Tira, working with the producers.”
