Cape Town – Local Kwaito star Mandoza died on Sunday morning after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May last year.
The 38-year-old South African musician - whose real name is Mduduzi Tshabalala – started his career as part of Kwaito group Chiskop, which he formed with three childhood friends.
Although the group achieved great success, Mandoza started his solo career in 1999 when he released his album, 9II5 Zola South.
He followed this top-selling album by another one in 2000, titled Nkalakatha. The titled track became one of the most recognised songs on radio in SA and won the Song Of The Year category at the South African Music Awards in 2001. The album also won a SAMA in the Best Kwaito Music Album category.
We remember Mandoza with 5 of his greatest hits:
1) Nkalakatha
2) 50-50 (M'du feat Mandoza)
3) Uzoyithola Kanjani
4) Sgelekeqe
5) Godoba
