Renowned Afrikaans filmmaker Jans Rautenbach has died

Cape Town - Renowned Afrikaans filmmaker, Jans Rautenbach, has died at age 80.

Netwerk 24 reported that the 80-year-old died at the Bay View Hospital in Mosselbay due to complications with pneumonia.

The news come one day after legendary accordionist and songwriter, Nico Carstens, passed away in Cape Town.

Rautenbach was the producer behind popular films: Pappa Lap (1971), Eendag op 'n Reëndag (1975), Blink Stefaans (1981) and more recently Abraham (2015)

"It was under his leadership that the KKNK was established as a lifestyle experience, with groundbreaking productions and exhibitions," Kunste Onbeperk wrote on Facebook.

"Thank you for teaching us to dream and for showing us how to realise our dreams," the post went on to say.
