Local singer’s mom dies in car crash on her way to pick him up

Cape Town - Christie Barnard, mother of Romanz singer Adam Barnard, died in a head-on collision on Tuesday, 6 June while on her way to assist him.

The accident took place between Parys and Sasolburg.

Barnard, 61, was on her way to Parys to pick up her son who needed to go to Potchefstroom for dialyses treatment. Adam, who is currently in a wheelchair, suffers from severe kidney failure and is receiving treatment.

Huisgenoot reported earlier this year that the 31-year-old singer has suffered from kidney problems for several years.

According to a statement published on Adam’s Facebook page his mother was travelling with a family friend, Sarel Human, 49, who also died in the crash.

The Parys Gazette reported that Human was a well-known businessman in the area. His son, Ruben, is a close friend of Adam.

"We are thankful for the love and support from the community," a statement released on Facebook read.
