South Africans remember Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder Joseph Shabalala

Cape Town - South Africans have taken to social media to pay tribute to Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder Joseph Shabalala.

The musical director died on Tuesday from complications following back surgery in 2012 that left him wheelchair-bound.

A life-changing moment for Joseph and the group happened in 1986 when Paul Simon travelled to South Africa to collaborate with local artists for his Graceland album.

From all corners of the country, fans and friends sent their condolences as they paid their respects to Joseph on social media.

"Rest In Peace Joseph Shabalala. Thank you for your contribution to the world. Your music will live forever," one user tweeted.

"I'm so saddened by this heartbreaking news," another said.
