Johannesburg - Radio personality and actress Thando Thabethe honoured Advocate Thuli Madonsela at her fourth annual Women’s Netball Challenge held at Munro Boutique Hotel in Houghton recently.
The challenge was held ahead of a fun day including a netball tournament to raise funds for this year’s beneficiary Nisa Homes – a transitional home for homeless immigrant, refugee and Muslim women.
Madonsela shared words of wisdom with the women in the room, telling them that they did not need anyone’s permission to shine, but that it was their divine right to do so.
“I truly believe that you don’t have to raise your voice in an argument, only raise the quality of your argument,” she said. Thabethe, who recently parted ways with Generations: The Legacy, is the founder of the challenge in which celebrities play netball against each other and raise awareness around issues affecting women. It is in its fourth year.
She told City Press that the Women’s Day Netball Challenge was meant to be a community effort for the benefit all women. “This year I still aim to speak to the hearts and minds of all people, not just Thando’s mother,” said the actress, referring to her mother Bongi who was also in attendance.
Among other guests who graced the event were songbird Kelly Khumalo, Advocate Xoli Maduna, businesswoman Kamohelo Bombe and Metro FM’s Pearl Modiadie.
After all the formalities the women were treated to neck, shoulder and foot massages.
