Cape Town - A report released by the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa shows which radio stations were the most popular in 2016.
The Broadcast Research Council of South Africa's (BRC) role is to commission and oversee the delivery of radio and television audience measurement research for broadcasters, as well as the advertising and marketing industry.
In the BRC's January to September review, a sample of 53 396 listeners were used. The report estimates that around 38.3m people in South Africa listen to the radio.
The report splits the audience into 60% metro, 20% small urban and 20% rural.
According to the data provided in the report, 64% of listeners are loyal to one radio station.
The most common device used to access the radio is the traditional radio, followed by cellphone, car radio, TV and computer. The most popular location when listening to the radio is home, followed by car, work and public areas.
